Almora, a cantonment town bustling with activity and a rich cultural heritage and history in the Almora district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is considered the cultural heart of the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.

Almora is a town in the shape of a horse shoe. It is on a 5 km long mountain range. It has its own historical, cultural and political importance.

Each and every inch of Almora is filled with scenic beauty and the town has maintained its ancient tradition which is different from other hill stations. This is clearly evident in the construction of the houses and in the roads made out of slate stone.

Almora is also called a town of temples. Situated in the centre of the town is the temple of Goddess Nanda Devi. Unlike Shimla, Ranikhet and Nainital which were developed by the English, Almora is a hill station totally developed by the Indians.

Almora has many fruit orchards like apples, peaches, apricots, plums, etc.

Katarmal - is an 800-year old Sun Temple second in importance after the Sun Temple of Konark in Orissa. It is a temple of historical importance and a classic example of intricate sculpturing.

Bright End Corner - If you wish to witness the beauty of sunrise and sunset through the Himalayan peaks, then you must visit Bright End Corner, which is 2 kms from Almora. Vivekananda Memorial is also located in this region where Swami Vivekananda stopped enroute to the Himalayas.

Chitai Temple - 8 kms from Almora, the Chitai temple is an important attraction in Almora. The temple is dedicated to Lord Golu, a popular Kumaon deity.

Nanda Devi Temple - Nanda  Devi temple is the most popular attraction in Almora. It is almost 1000 years old with exquisite carvings on the wall. The Nanda Devi Festival is held every year in Almora, where youth from several regions join in.

Other important places of visit - Govind Ballabh Pant Museum, Kosi Temple, Gananath, Someshwar, Kausani, Jageshwar, Martola, Simtola, Kasar Devi Temple.
